I love the simplicity of this kitchen. It’s a great use of a small space, and the monochromatic scheme gives the room space to breathe. I love the idea of taking a bookshelf and library ladder and converting them into kitchen shelving. The hanging pendants at different heights gives perspective to the room, and the light weight kitchen units keep the space airy and welcoming.
What does your kitchen look like?
How eye popping is this open plan kitchen? It’s not often that clients are willing or have the inclination to really ‘go for it’ with colour, and such blocky colour at that.
You’ll notice that the walls have been kept neutral in a light off-white, and the colour has been injected through joinery and furniture, allowing the space to ‘breath’ and maintain a sense of perspective. Even though the colours pop and sparkle, it’s still very much a grown up space. I need this pink and green kitchen in my life!
The soaring chimney, the cool stone floors, the white ceramic tiles and the altar-like central table would sooner fool one into thinking this was in fact a place of worship. Well, in it’s very essence it is however in this room the worship is at the altar of food and sustenance. This kitchen belongs to the Santa Maria de Alcobaca monastery, Portugal, which was built in 1752. I can’t ever imagine a sister being stressed out in this kitchen with all the space and height to breathe and to cook.
