Thursday’s Inspiration ~ From Haute to Home

During fashion week, both on and off the runways we saw plenty of fur.  Whether you agree with it or not, fur has always been a luxurious addition to any scheme, be it fashion or at home.  The world of interiors works at a slower pace than than that of fashion, however the influences of previous year’s looks are often seen filtering into chic interiors.

Ryan Korban is well known for his use of fur, adding to the sexy and grown up feel of the interiors he creates.  Schumacher has a fantastic and (trust me) eye wateringly beautiful range of hand crafted wallpaper using all natural feathers.  A fur throw on the end of a bed, or a feather trim on a lampshade are just the beginning for ideas on fur and feathers in the home.

Do you have a favourite animal print?

Thursday’s Inspiration

I don’t think the concept of living in a converted warehouse will ever get old.  City living is becoming more cramped as the population continually increases, and warehouse spaces are becoming even fewer and far between as industries die or move away. If you look carefully, there are a few hidden gems out there.  I’d like to use these inspirations for my own warehouse conversion project…

Thursday’s Inspiration ~ Cool customer

One of the design projects I’m currently running is for a very cool guy.  Although he’s got a very serious job, he is actually a creative at heart and the brief for his pad is to create a cool space that he can let his creativity flourish.  I thought I’d share with you a few images that I’m working with as inspiration for his mood boards.

I’m swooning over the desk, above left (via Splendid Willow) and the neutral colour palette is masculine without being too ‘bachelor pad-ish’.

Have you got any ideas that can incorporate into our schemes?

Friday’s Breathing Space

{via Elle Decoration South African}

A bit of a tenuous link for Friday’s Breathing Space…one of my South African friends, who has been involved in interior design, has recently moved to Japan and in celebration of her work visa being granted (which she was very much wishing for) it seemed serendipitous that the September issue of the South African Elle Decoration magazine had a featurette on the colours of Japan.

I can practically smell the blossoms from here….

Friday’s Breathing Space ~ African skies

I’m off to South Africa today to visit my family (my cousin had her first baby a few months ago, so exciting!) and on a buying trip. Watch out for some great suppliers coming soon…

Friday’s Breathing Space ~ Not Your Usual Type of Kitchen

{via WoI}

The soaring chimney, the cool stone floors, the white ceramic tiles and the altar-like central table would sooner fool one into thinking this was in fact a place of worship. Well, in it’s very essence it is however in this room the worship is at the altar of food and sustenance. This kitchen belongs to the Santa Maria de Alcobaca monastery, Portugal, which was built in 1752. I can’t ever imagine a sister being stressed out in this kitchen with all the space and height to breathe and to cook.
